What is a “free landfill day”?
This is an opportunity for each household within the Town to take items to AWMF that cannot be picked up by curbside collection at no additional cost.
How I do you use my free landfill day?
1.Bring your load of household waste to Aspen (located on the west side of Highway 22 on 58th Avenue) on either May 26th or 27th between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
2.Provide proof of residency (driver’s license, tax bill, utility bill).
3.Your household information will be recorded.
4.You will be able to cross the scale ONCE at no charge, and within the specified weight, during the free landfill days.
When can I use my free landfill day?
You can use your free landfill day on either May 26 or 27, 2017. This access cannot be deferred to another time during the year.
I am not a homeowner in Drayton Valley, but I do rent. Can I use the free landfill day?
Yes, as a renter you can access the AWMF during these days at no charge with proof of residence.
I am a business owner in Drayton Valley, can I use the free landfill day?
No, this is for households only.
My garbage and recycling day is Friday, May 26. Will my garbage and recycling still be picked up?
Yes, curbside collection of garbage and recycling will not be affected.
Is there a limit to how much I can bring?
The equivalent of one pickup truck load equal to but not exceeding 500kg (approximately 1100 lbs.)
What if I go over the allotted weight?
Anything over 500kg will be charged. The rate for household waste is $75.00 per tonne.
Can anyone from my household use my free landfill day?
Yes, but there is a limit of only one load per household.
I am not a resident of Drayton Valley, can I use the free landfill day?
No, this program is for Town of Drayton Valley households only.

What can I bring to the Material Recovery Facility
The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) collects recyclable material and household hazardous waste. Acceptable items can be brought to the MRF throughout the year at no charge. Materials need to be separated from landfill items. See list below.
Is there a fee for appliances like fridges, freezers, air conditioners and other appliances that have CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) units?
There is a $60.00 fee for items containing CFC units.
I am unable to take my items to the these days. What can I do?
As a Drayton Valley household, you can still use the free landfill day by having a third party bring your items, with proof of residency.
Will the Fall Clean-up be running this year?
Yes, Fall Clean-up will take place as usual, with dates to be announced later this year. Please note that the placement of items for Fall Clean-up may only occur one week prior to the scheduled dates and residents are advised not to stockpile items outside.
