The draft Accountability and Transparency Policy C-01-17 addresses the support of open government principles of accountability and transparency and outlines the Town of Drayton Valley’s commitments which will ensure that Council decision making is open and transparent and that the Town is accountable for the provision and performance of its services. Within the Policy, the roles and responsibilities of the Town are clearly defined and that, within the Town the roles of Council and staff, and the responsibility for services provided are easily understood.
The Modernized Municipal Government Act, RSA 2016, mandates that each municipality adopt a “Public Participation Policy” by April 2018. The draft Public Consultation and Communication Policy A-04-17 addresses this legislative requirement. The Town recognizes the rights of the public to participate in the development of their community and the general objective of this Policy is to foster the opportunity for community members to participate actively in the development and management of municipal affairs, being mindful of the best interests of the community as a whole.
Each of these documents has been prepared pursuant to research of numerous municipalities of various sizes and location, and represent the principles and practices which can be applied within our specific operations. Public feedback will assist in ensuring that the Policies to be adopted by Council are responsive and specific to the needs of the community.
